Fire

I had a client come for Tantric massage, today. It was a powerful, deeply meaningful session. A regular client, they’ve been to me just for the fun of it, too, but today clearly there was stuff that needed processing. As the session progressed, anger started coming out. There was stomping of feet on the massage mattress, shouting and screaming into the cushion, deep releasing with all sorts of strongly physical reactions. In their own words: “the feeling of cleansing and rebirth”.

During the aftercare conversation, a beautiful analogy came out that resonated with both of us - anger is energy. So is laughter. So is loving fiercely (as my client does). And so is FIRE. And the thing about fire is that it is both fierce and beautiful. It’s awe-inspiringly powerful - it can burn forests, or forge iron, it can destroy life or nourish it. The point is that it is up to us to treat that powerful energy with respect and with positive intent; to use it for good. The same applies to our life energy. So much of how we deal with life is really about being able to choose how we respond to people and situations. Are we letting our powerful emotions translate into negative energy (fear, resentment, anger), or are we able to turn them into something positive - love, laughter, curiosity…

Though not always easy, we can certainly work on and learn how to do the latter.
